TheFreeDictionary.com Goes Multilingual and Expands its Medical, Lexical, and Encyclopedic Content

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA, May 1, 2008 - Farlex, Inc., publisher of the world's most comprehensive database of online reference material, has announced the addition of thirteen new reference titles to its flagship site, TheFreeDictionary.com.

Material from Mosby's Dictionary of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Gale Dictionary of Collective Nouns and Group Terms, Gale Ologies and Isms, Gale Allusions, Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, Collins Essential English Dictionary, Collins Essential Thesaurus, Collins French Dictionary & Grammar, Collins Spanish Dictionary & Grammar, Collins German Dictionary & Grammar, Collins Italian Dictionary & Italian in Action, Britannica Concise Encyclopedia, and the Dictionary of American Biography will now supplement TheFreeDictionary.com's already impressive array of reference information. With the addition of these new resources, users will gain free access to an indispensable compilation of reliable and authoritative information on a range of topics from health and medicine to biographies and current events. In addition to its comprehensive collection of English reference materials, the site will now host a number of dictionary resources for non-English languages.

"This is the largest single addition of reference material on our site," says Nick Simonov, co-founder and president of Farlex, Inc., "and we are proud to provide our users with this expanded resource collection. For the first time, TheFreeDictionary.com has expanded the scope of its resources to include titles outside of the English language. The addition of Spanish, French, German, and Italian dictionaries will make the site accessible to a broad user base."

In addition to the traditional dictionary resources provided by TheFreeDictionary.com, the site allows users to learn proper pronunciation with an audio tool that speaks the words aloud. This tool, which had previously offered only American English pronunciations, will now afford users the option of hearing either the American English or the UK English word pronunciation.

Along with the recently added Britannica Concise Encyclopedia and English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian dictionaries, TheFreeDictionary.com offers a wealth of other valuable research tools that include legal, computing, medical, veterinary, financial, and scientific dictionaries, as well as the Columbia, Wikipedia, and Hutchinson Encyclopedias.
